The discovery of Jakob Bengel as a significant German jewelry manufacturer has liberated Oberstein from the status of the „underdog“ in the German jewelry industry. The book „Jakob Bengel Oberstein“ commemorates the factory’s 150th anniversary and is published by @arnoldsche_art_publishers. In their recent study, Wilhelm Lindemann and Christianne Weber-Stöber illustrate the evolution of German jewelry design between 1910 and 1933 using Bengel as a case study. Previously unpublished Bengel jewelry and contemporary design sketches highlight the outstanding production within the context of the reform ideas of the German Werkbund, German arts and crafts schools, and the Bauhaus.
